Frequently asked questions

1. What is the World English Bible?

The World English Bible is a copyright free update of the American Standard Version of 1901 into modern English. It is one of the few restriction free modern translations available and that is why I chose to record it. You can find out more information about the World English Bible and download the text for free at www.eBible.org

The World English Bible is a good, conservative, literal translation that communicates the Good News of Jesus Christ. Many of the Audiotreasure visitors do not speak English as their first language and would find the King James Version of the Bible difficult to understand.

2. Who is behind AudioTreasure.com?

AudioTreasure.com is a private ministry website run by the narrator of the free files, David Williams. The site came online in 2000 with a vision to offer an audio Bible in the popular mp3 format that could be freely downloaded, copied and given to others. The site has grown in popularity and currently serves over 1,000,000 downloads per month of Bible audio files. The site is funded by the sale of mp3 Bible disc sets.

3. How can I make audio CDs out of the mp3 files?

The files offered online for free download can be burned to audio CD format but it takes a few steps. The mp3 files are in mono and are sampled at 22khz. They have to be converted to stereo wav files and re-sampled to 44.1khz before you can burn them to an audio CD. There are many software programs that can do the job for you. Some of them only require one click. I do not make software recommendations but do suggest that you search www.google.com with the search terms "mp3 to wav software" or "mp3 to audio CD software".

4. What can I do with the mp3 Bible files? Can I legally make copies?

The online Bible audio files can be freely copies and used for any non-commercial purpose. Some of the mp3 Bible disc sets we sell (Dramatized NIV and KJV) are commercial recordings that cannot be legally copied and given to others due to copyright restrictions.

5. What are the specs for the CD-ROM mp3 files?

The World English Bible CD-ROM files are encoded at 48kbps or 64kbps mono at 44.1 khz
The AudioTreasure Spanish NT and KJV NT mp3 CD-ROMs are encoded at 64kbps mono at 44.1 khz

The Hosanna Dramatized NIV and KJV mp3 6 disc sets are sampled at 44.1kHz and encoded in stereo at 96kbps (OT) and 128 kbps (Psalms, Proverbs and NT). Each CD is limited to a maximum of 250 mp3 files to be compatible with most in-dash, component, and portable mp3 CD players. Each files was tagged using ID3v1 and ID3v2 formats so the books and chapter will display. The 1189 chapters take up a total of 3.9 Gb and may be copied to a hard drive or storage card for listening without the CDs.
